Former Cal men’s basketball point guard Brandon Chauca has received a release from the team and will be eligible for a fifth season as a graduate transfer, according to Ben Parker and Jon Rothstein on Twitter. Cal Athletics confirmed that Chauca’s release was granted.

Chauca played with the Bears from 2014 to 2016, but he was sidelined last season because of a broken wrist injury he suffered in the preseason.

As a freshman, Chauca suited up for 22 of Cal’s 33 games, averaging 2.4 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game in 9.5 minutes per game. The former Bear shined from deep, hitting 12 of 31 three-pointers in his first season with the program.

Chauca rarely saw the floor during his sophomore campaign, only playing 38 minutes over nine games the entire season.
