At about 8 in the morning on Sunday, July 30, a male, unaffiliated with campus, fell victim to an attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and battery in People’s Park south of campus.

According to a Nixle alert issued by UCPD, the male suspect approached the victim in the park, threatened him with a knife and attempted to take the victim’s cell phone.

The suspect lunged at the victim with a knife but missed him. The victim held onto his phone but was punched twice in the face by the suspect, according to the alert. As a result, the victim suffered a laceration to his face but declined medical attention.

According to the alert, the suspect fled westbound on foot from the park; UCPD searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. UCPD has no other information to provide at this time.

UCPD asks that the public contact their Criminal Investigations Bureau at (510) 642-0472 if you have any information about this crime.
