This piece has been updated to reflect more information from UCPD Sgt. Nicolas Hernandez.

UCPD is investigating an alleged assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in People’s Park on Sunday morning, according to a Nixle alert issued Monday afternoon.

The alert describes the suspect as a 35-year-old, 5-foot 7-inch Black male, with black hair, brown eyes and weighing 170 lbs.

The alert said the alleged altercation between a male suspect and a male victim, both unaffiliated with the campus, took place about 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The suspect allegedly threatened the victim, and then hit the victim in the back of the head with a skateboard. The suspect fled the area, and UCPD could not locate the suspect after searching the area. The alert added that the victim was later treated for a head injury.

A suspect, Alfred Taylor, was arrested Monday, after being stopped and detained by officers on the 2500 block of Dwight Way, according to UCPD Sgt. Nicolas Hernandez.

Hernandez said Taylor, 35, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and robbery, noting that Taylor was a suspect in a prior robbery incident with the same victim.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the UCPD Criminal Investigation Bureau at (510) 642-0472.
