With the end of winter fast approaching, I thought making a hot, cheesy sandwich would be the best way to celebrate. This sandwich calls for minimal ingredients and can definitely be made on a budget, which I think we can all appreciate. Though it might be a hassle in the moment to make that long trek to the market, you’ll find that these ingredients will last you a significant amount of time or can be incorporated into other healthy, simple recipes — such as pizza or pasta. So get ready to wrap yourself in your favorite throw, settle down with your laptop and enjoy this warm, tasty sandwich.
Ingredients
Makes 1 sandwich
2 slices sourdough bread
1 spoonful pasta sauce
3 slices fresh mozzarella (½ inch thick)
4 basil leaves
5 slices salami
1 ½ tablespoons butter
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and set to “toast.” While the oven is preheating, stick the butter in the microwave for 30 seconds until it melts completely. Spread the butter onto one side of each slice of sourdough. Next, lay the two slices of sourdough bread (butter side down) on a flat surface.
Take the salami and arrange them on one of the sourdough slices. Make sure there aren’t any gaps so that the pasta sauce doesn’t make the bread soggy! Spread the pasta sauce across the salami.
Lay the basil on top of the pasta sauce. Then, arrange the sliced mozzarella over the basil.
Give your sandwich its other half, and place on a clean tray or lined oven-safe plate. Stick the tray in the oven for 5 minutes on one side and 5 minutes on the other. Be careful not to spill the contents of the sandwich when you flip it!

Take a minute to appreciate the glory of this beauty and enjoy!
