The Cal men’s basketball team has added another face to its 2016-17 squad with the signing of graduate transfer Grant Mullins.
Mullins, a 6-foot-3-inch and 175-pound guard from Columbia, will be eligible to play this coming season. The Bears beat out schools including Syracuse and Michigan.
Mullins averaged 13.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season for the Lions after missing the 2014-15 season because of head and neck injuries. Mullins will be playing in his fifth year after matriculating, making him ineligible to stay at Columbia or any other Ivy, per Ivy League rules.
The news comes a few days after freshman forward Ivan Rabb decided to stay at Cal for the upcoming season by not declaring for the 2016 NBA Draft, despite fellow freshman Jaylen Brown declaring last week. Mullins will also be assisting the Bears in replacing senior guard Tyrone Wallace.
