Person killed underneath train at Downtown Berkeley BART station Saturday

A person was caught underneath a train and killed at the Downtown Berkeley BART station Saturday morning.

Berkeley Police Department was called to the Downtown Berkeley BART station about 10:30 a.m. for a medical rescue, according to BPD Lt. Andrew Rateaver.

The fatality is being investigated as a suicide, according to James Allison, BART spokesperson.

Both BPD and the Berkeley Fire Department were called to provide assistance with the rescue. The incident is being investigated by BART police, Rateaver said.

As of about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the station was reopened for service.
