Is there a barbecue fruit more classic than a watermelon? Probably not. If you’re looking to update some classic elements of your summer barbecue, try infusing your watermelon with alcohol. And by “infuse,” we mean basically empty a fifth into a melon. Warning: Once you do this, your barbecue will unfortunately stray away from being a classy event, but we at the Clog think it’s worth it. We are here to teach you how to get #watermelonwasted.

Ingredients:

  • Whole watermelon
  • Fifth of alcohol, such as vodka, rum or tequila. Bonus points if you use watermelon-favored vodka.

Instructions:

  1. Make sure you have a sharp knife and a funnel. Carefully cut a hole into the melon that is large enough for the funnel to fit into.
  2. Gradually pour as much alcohol as desired (minimum 1 1/2 cups, but really the entire fifth is the way to go) through the funnel. You may have to allow the melon time to absorb the alcohol (up to three hours). And then you can add even more.
  3. Chill the melon in the fridge
  4. Enjoy … responsibly.
