Power was restored at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday in all College of Chemistry buildings after a power outage, according to campus spokesperson Janet Gilmore.

Four buildings in the campus College of Chemistry lost power at 12:40 p.m., Gilmore said. Buildings with reported power outages include Tan, Latimer, Pimentel and Hildebrand Halls.

Fire alarms were heard from inside of Latimer Hall. Some classes were cancelled due to the outage, and others moved outside, including one chemistry class that administered a quiz outside Pimentel Hall. A staircase in front of Latimer Hall was roped off with caution tape.

“I try not to stress about things I don’t have control over,” said Kony Kim, who taught her Theories of Justice discussion section outside during the outage. She said that because Tuesday’s discussion was the last of the semester, canceling it “would be a big loss.”

The campus’ facilities services conducted a sweep in one of the buildings after reports of a possible hazard, but no hazards were found. Buildings were evacuated as a precaution as vents stopped working, according to Gilmore.
