The weather is looking up, classes are winding down, and more and more people are spending time outside. It is almost summer, and we at the Clog speak for everyone when we say that it could not come soon enough. While we understand that you should enjoy the nice weather while it lasts, there are a few things we think you should be careful of, specifically in regards to tanning on Memorial Glade. Yes, the Glade is a prime location to get your tan on and step away from the stressor that is finals — but take note of how to do so properly.
- Do not block the Frisbee players.
Memorial Glade is not only for tanners. Be aware that other people want to use the large field for recreational activities, such as a Frisbee, and they should be just as free to use the Glade as sunbathers.
- Do not forget your sunblock.
This is not exactly common courtesy, but you really should be careful about how much sun you are getting. Nobody wants to look at your incredibly red arms, just as much as you don’t want to deal with a healing sunburn for the next couple of days.
- Do not play music out of speakers.
We are not at a party, so there is no need for you to be playing your music on full blast through your portable speakers. Memorial Glade is for everyone to enjoy, and it is very difficult to get into the relaxation zone if you are playing Drake’s new album.
- Try not to set up camp too close to fellow sunbathers.
Memorial Glade is mighty big enough to spread out on. Even if you think one area has more sun, it is not worth taking up someone else’s space to get the better suntan. Think about it this way: Would you want some random person sitting in your sunbathing area?
- Take a nap.
When else do you get the chance to lie down outside, enjoy the heat, watch people play Frisbee and be in the middle of a city? Memorial Glade is a gem of the campus, and you should use it to your full advantage.
