A Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory employee reported seeing a mountain lion near the laboratory Thursday.

According to a UCPD alert released Monday, the employee saw the mountain lion near Building 90. Workers also found a small deer carcass on the foot trail near Parking Lot D over the weekend that may have been the victim of a mountain lion attack, authorities said.

In the past several years, mountain lion sightings have occurred in the hills located above the UC Berkeley campus. In November 2012, an unconfirmed mountain lion sighting was also reported around campus near Berkeley Lab’s Building 26.

UCPD has posted tips online describing ways to reduce chances of encountering a mountain lion and to prevent a possible attack.
