Berkeley man murdered outside Oakland nightclub early Wednesday

A shooting early Wednesday morning outside an Oakland nightclub left a Berkeley man dead.

The victim, Connie Sowels III, was 27 years old and died from a gunshot wound. No arrests have been made.

Oakland Police Department was dispatched to Clay and 11th streets at approximately 1:18 a.m. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the nightclub was Bella Ultra Lounge.

Personnel from Oakland Fire Department and Paramedics Plus transported Sowels to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The case represents Oakland’s 52nd homicide case this year. Last year at this time, the city had seen 73.

The investigation is ongoing. OPD requested that those with information on the crime call its homicide department at 510-238-3821.
