A 19-year-old male was robbed at gunpoint at the intersection of Channing Way and Telegraph Avenue early Friday morning, according to a UCPD crime alert released Monday.

The individual, whose affiliation with the campus is unknown, was walking around the area at approximately 2 a.m. when two male individuals approached him from behind. One of the individuals allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and demanded his property. The two proceeded to take his backpack, which contained a laptop and other items, before fleeing the scene in a vehicle, police said. The individual was not physically harmed.

Berkeley Police Department officers stopped a vehicle in Oakland that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. The officers arrested one of the individuals at the vehicle. The second individual ran away and was arrested by the officers a short time later, according to authorities.

The individuals arrested were Donell Wheat, a 19-year-old male, and an unnamed 14-year-old male individual.

Wheat is being held at Berkeley Jail with bail set at $435,000. His arraignment was scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. in Oakland’s Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse.
