A large fire near Hearst Ave. and 2nd St. was under control as of 2:59 p.m. Wednesday.

Berkeley Police Department and Berkeley Fire Department both responded to the one-alarm fire, according to a BPD spokesperson. Though the cause of the fire is still under investigation, authorities currently believe that it may have been caused by an explosion.

Emergency dispatchers could be heard over a city radio broadcast system describing a possible meth lab explosion, but police could not confirm this. Up to 100 recycling bins caught on fire.

Traffic going eastbound on Interstate-80 was blocked off, but all roadways were re-open by 4:46 p.m.
