The Daily Cal was awarded three first place wins in the Society of Professional Journalists’ regional college journalism competition over the weekend, along with being recognized as a finalist in three additional categories.

The SPJ’s Region 11 Mark of Excellence Awards honor outstanding college journalism from schools in Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada. The Daily Cal took home first place awards in the online feature reporting, editorial writing and sports writing categories. We received finalist recognition in the breaking news photography, online in-depth reporting and online news reporting categories.

The first place awards will go on to compete in the SPJ’s national competition, the winners of which will be announced in late spring.
