UPDATE: Police have identified the man as 21-year-old Michael Hamilton of Oregon, according to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Jennifer Coats. Police investigators do not believe Hamilton had a connection to Berkeley High School, where he was found after an apparent suicide.

A man, who police said appeared to have committed suicide, was discovered on the Berkeley High School campus Monday afternoon.

Around 2:15 p.m., Berkeley Police Department and Berkeley Fire Department responded to a report of a possible suicide of a man who appeared to be in his early 20s, according to a BPD press release.

Berkeley High School was closed Monday due to the holiday. It is currently unclear whether the individual had any connection to the high school.

BPD detectives are investigating the incident. BPD is asking that anyone with information contact its Homicide Detail at 510-981-5737 or its nonemergency line at 510-981-5900. To remain anonymous, individuals with information can also contact Bay Area Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
