An 88-year-old man was taken into custody after he allegedly opened fire on Berkeley firefighters, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting.

The man was being treated by firefighters for a medical condition in his home on the 1200 block of Dwight Way at around 1:45 a.m. Monday. It was then when he began allegedly firing a handgun, grazing a firefighter with a bullet, the Chronicle states.

The man was then taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. The injured firefighter was treated at the scene and hospitalization was not required.
